This design build project, which was completed by the Pernix Guam employees, included the construction of a 51,000 square foot Fitness Center at Naval Base Guam. The facility was also designed for a certifiable LEED Silver Rating.

The new addition features a fitness area, gym with two basketball courts, men’s and women’s locker rooms, shower, sauna and steam rooms, a receiving, repair and recycling area, juice bar, administrative areas, resale outlet, and spline corridor. The facility received new electrical, water and sewer services, as well as a new automatic fire protection and HVAC systems. Construction was a combination of cast in place walls, pre-cast double tees and a long span structural steel roof system with concrete topping over the gymnasium and existing building structure.

Other features include a playground, a new fenced in outdoor 50 meter swimming lap pool with ten 25 meter cross course swimming lanes that incorporates a zero entry design. The kiddie pool area incorporates a wading pool and a splash pad with five interactive water play elements.

Site improvements include a new multi-purpose sports field with synthetic turf and a six lane all weather running track. The new maintenance building provides toilets, storage and announcers booth. The new outdoor fit trail fitness system traverses the entire site and includes a running path and fit stations. A new 274 stall parking lot was constructed on the west side of the facility, and a storm water distribution with limited underground piping as well as two bioswales was installed to help with storm water run-offs. Landscaping work included planting of new trees, and reconfiguration and replanting of existing trees at the site.
