BE&K Building Group provided preconstruction and construction services for Kettler’s Millennium at Metropolitan Park, Phase II of a 20-year construction program including seven additional buildings strategically placed near the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.

The building is situated on 2.57 prime acres and has 300 high-end rental apartments as well as 7,800 square feet of retail and 368 underground parking spaces. The Millennium offers amenities such as a rooftop pool, spa, fitness center, party room, library and business center.

The Millennium consists of two-and-a-half levels of mild steel underground parking deck with 20 residential floors of post-tension concrete. The skin is made up of cast stone and brick with assorted metal panels and full height windows on the corners of the building. In addition, the penthouse loft units, on the 18th floor, are enclosed by an 18-foot curtain wall.

Unique to the project was a bridge design for the main lobby. The bridge sits atop a two story, open atrium with glass guardrails. The lobby is also host of a suspended wood acoustic ceiling system.

Although The Millennium was not designed for LEED certification, the project has achieved Arlington County’s requirement of 25 LEED points. This was accomplished by methods such as using all local materials, recycling over 75% of construction debris, diverted from landfill, and a fresh air HVAC system.
