This design-build project, completed by Pernix Guam’s employees, involved the replacement of an existing 40/50 MVA substation with a new climate controlled 60/80 Substation building to house the new 34.5 kV and 13.8 kV switchgears, generator, battery area, emergency eyewash area, storage, transformer enclosures, power factor correction capacitors, mechanical area, and office with bathroom.

The new building is reinforced concrete structure with concrete floor, concrete walls and concrete roof with metal roofing, and received new electrical, water and sewer services, and automatic fire protection and HVAC systems.

Electrical work includes new underground feeders utilizing 6” diameter PVC schedule 40 conduits with 3000 psi concrete encasement. The underground duct system includes pre‐cast concrete manholes.

Work also included the upgrading of 2 switching stations, and demolition of an existing substation, and overhead power lines and poles.
