BE&K Building Group was selected to provide design, preconstruction and construction services for a major expansion to the existing General Mills processing facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The 180,000-square-foot addition is constructed with a precast concrete structure and envelope, insulated metal panels and utilizes a TPO membrane roof. Included is a mezzanine level mechanical, refrigeration and electrical space, complete with explosion relief panels and waterproof floor.
The project scope included the design and construction of the building, installation of all utilities, and coordination of the building construction and process equipment installation. The installation of the precast concrete roof over 20,000 square feet of the building was postponed and resequenced to allow continued progress with the building envelope while accommodating the installation of process utility equipment.
The project schedule was both aggressive and challenging with only nine months from award to project completion. The facility is recognized by the United States Green Building Council as a LEED® Gold facility.
